We hope that they’ll reach a new license deal, but we’re keeping all of our legal options open.
Sony’s Liz Young, re: Amazon’s new Cloud Player service for Amazon MP3 downloads. Apparently Amazon didn’t run this buy the record companies, after all. Frankly, good for Amazon.
If I were Bezos, I’d tell the RIAA to STFU. Otherwise, the recording companies can have a fun time explaining to a judge why people aren’t allowed to listen to music that they’ve purchased– and which were willingly sold– in a non-DRM’d format.
The reality is that people can today take Amazon MP3 purchases and upload them to Dropbox or iDisk and listen to them on their devices over the air. Amazon’s service simply removes the extra “re-upload” step from the equation. And if Steve Jobs is angry about anything today, it’s about not making this play first.
